New CIOOS Data Management Guide
AUGUST 25, 2025
The new CIOOS Data Management Guide is now available!
In recent months, experts from across the CIOOS ecosystem have come together in a collaborative effort to develop this Guide, building on previous editions from the St. Lawrence Global Observatory (SLGO) to create a shared, easy-to-use and easy-to-update, bilingual document that reflects the expertise of our data professionals and regional partners.
The Guide is divided into two key parts:
- A general data management guide covering topics like FAIR and CARE principles, biodiversity data file structure, metadata best practices, variable dictionaries to support harmonized approaches across disciplines.
- The CIOOS Data Management Plan (DMP), a standardized template for documenting how your dataset meets CIOOS requirements and contributes to an open and interoperable ocean data system.
We hope this Guide helps ocean scientists and data managers to contribute to CIOOS’ open and interoperable ocean data system!
